Yellow and Gray Crochet Headband

April in Ohio is cold and rainy with a few nice days scattered in, but not many. The temps are in the 40-50 range so it feels too warm to be really bundled up but there is still a chill in the air.

I made this crocheted headband for myself a few weeks ago and it has been the perfect accessory for this weather. I throw it on when I go out to run errands, walk the dogs or when I’m having a bad hair day. Every time I wear it I get at least one compliment. I’ve even had someone ask if I sell them. An Etsy shop is definitely something I have been interested in opening. I have even sold a couple of my hats to coworkers before.

To make this headband I used a pattern from my Crochet a Day calendar for 2011. It’s not my pattern to share but it’s basically made up a row of single crochet alternating with a row of repeating single and triple crochet. The triple crochet is what makes the texture. It looks like a mini bobble stitch but it’s so much easier. The yarn I used was Caron Simply Soft.

The flower is a one layer mumsy from the book The Crochet Bouquet: Easy Designs for Dozens of Flowers. This is the same book I used to make the flower from my Crochet Loopy Flower Baby Headband. I sewed it to a pin to attach to the headband in case I ever want to switch it out with a different colored flower. The yarn I used was Red Heart Super Saver.

I actually used this yarn to make my Crochet Men's Striped Earflap Hat. The color combo I used for that hat was for a coworker’s son’s school colors. I didn’t think I would find a use for gold yarn ever again. I really like the color combo of mustard and gray. I was searching through my yarn to see if I had anything that fit this combo and I realized that this yarn was really a mustard color and when I held it next to the gray I thought it was perfect!

I love my Crochet a Day Calendar because it has some really fun patterns in it. At the end of 2011 I went through all the patterns and saved the ones I wanted to make. I have a 2012 one on my desk at work right now. I actually have a extra copy I got a Christmas and never tried to return to the store. I know it’s already part way into 2012 but there are still good patterns in it.
