It’s My Birthday!

Happy 32nd birthday to me! Having a birthday in January means the weather is usually freezing, snowy and has been for weeks. This year is no exception as I feel like I have barely left the house in days. Having a tiny baby is another reason to stay in because Lincoln doesn’t need to be braving the elements either. I am looking forward though to being out and about this weekend to celebrate my birthday.

The best present I could ever get for my birthday, I already got eleven weeks ago :) Last year on my birthday I was wondering if I would ever get pregnant because we had been trying longer than I thought it would take. It didn’t feel like much of a celebration because I didn’t get what I really wanted. My birthday wish ended up coming true because I got pregnant in February. Now this year I get to enjoy the sweet little baby I wanted so badly last year.

Lincoln is really a sweet and happy little guy. My favorite time of the day is becoming early in the morning when I greet him after he wakes up in his crib. When he sees my face he gets excited and smiles and coos. It melts my heart every morning :) I love watching him with his daddy too. Mike always makes him smile and laugh with all the silly noises he makes and the songs he sings.

Lincoln January

On his changing table in the morning, wearing his new monkey jammies after his bath, walking the track with me at the gym (he is pretty thrilled about it!)

This week and next week are my practice for going back to work on February 10th. Lincoln is falling into a sleeping and eating schedule and I am getting up at the time I will be for work and practicing getting us up and out the door on time. Luckily for me, Lincoln had been sleeping through the night most nights, which is going to be a huge help to get me going in the morning.

I am really enjoying the last couple of weeks I have with my little guy before I have to return to work. I am not looking forward to be away from him but I will enjoy having a reason to wear nice clothes again (although I do love my leggings!) I’ve been reworking my closet to accommodate my pre baby body. The majority of my baby weight is gone but I’m not the same shape I used to be. It’s time to start getting serious at the gym, something I have not been very committed to so far.

I may just take some outfit pics to get my creative juices flowing again. I bought some cute clearance finds on Martin Luther King Day to jump start my work wardrobe. JC Penney had some amazing deals and I really like their Worthington and Joe Fresh lines. I also picked up some great deals at LOFT. Plus I actually may have a couple of crafty projects to share. Nothing like running out of free time to get me interested in working on projects again. It also helps that I am not so sleep deprived anymore and I can think about something else besides feeding a hungry baby every two hours.

Lincoln’s Two Month Update

2 months

My little guy is getting so big! He is two months old now and he is changing so much. Our last trip to the pediatrician put him at 14 pounds 14 ounces and 24.5 inches long. My chunky boy is in the 97th percentile for both height and weight.

It’s so fun watching all the new things he is learning every day. He is full of smiles, especially in the morning and when Mike gets home from work. He also smiles at the birdies in his bouncy chair and he just discovered how much he loves the mobile above his crib. He also has a sweet little laugh to go along with his smiles. He also loves his play mat. It has a little mirror and he discovered the little boy in it and it’s another source of smiles and laughs.

I could take a million pictures of his smile! He loves laying on his changing table in his room and that creates a daily photo opportunity.

In the past week he started tolerating tummy time. He can hold his head up really well and pushes his back legs like he wants to move forward. We had an exciting moment the other day when I laid him on the couch for tummy time. Lincoln was not having it and immediately started protesting and rolled himself onto his back. I started shouting and Mike came running in the room and Lincoln repeated it. Even though he was cranky about the whole situation, Mike and I were so excited.

Sleeping at night is going fairly well. I got my first seven hours of sleep! I woke up and had to go check and make sure he was ok! We had another seven hours of sleep after his shots and many nights he will sleep 5-6 hours. He is starting to fall into a schedule of going down for the night around 9:00 which is fabulous because I could handle that schedule when I go back to work. Before he used to want to stay up until midnight every night and that was getting pretty tiresome.

Speaking of going back to work, my official day back will be February 10th. It’s coming way too fast and I am not looking forward to being away from my boy all day :(

My Love of Target and Savings Tips

Funny Confession Ecard: 'I went to Target and only bought what I went there for.' Said no one ever.

Source

After I had some “mommy time” at Target the other day I felt inspired to write a whole post about why Target is so awesome and how I save money there. I love the thrill of a bargain and Target never disappoints. The prices are already low and I always hate buying something at a different store (because of convenience) when I know I could get it at Target for cheaper.

Target was one of the only places I still wanted to go at the end of my pregnancy when I was large and uncomfortable and walking only made it worse. It was also one of the first places I went after Lincoln was born (besides the pediatrician and Babies R Us.)

When my mother in law offered to watch Lincoln for a few hours the other day I planned all my errands centered around Target. A stop to get my eyeglasses adjusted, a stop to exchange a sleeper for the next size up (because my guy is growing like a weed!) and a glorious stop at Target.

Right now there is a crazy amount of clearance going on and I was in bargain heaven. I completely had to restrain myself and I put a bunch of stuff back before I checked out. The clothes clearance was amazing and I bought this white polka dot blazer for 50% off. It’s a little bold but I have a small obsession with polka dots right now.  I’m going to make sure I can style it before I make a final decision to keep it but it will give me something to look forward to wearing when I have to make the (sad) return to work.

Ways I Save at Target:

My favorite Target bargain blog Totally Target. There are daily posts about sales, clearance and coupon combinations. I have saved tons of money by following this blog. She also posts about other savings deals that are unrelated to Target.

Target Cartwheel. If you shop at Target and you do not use it, then you are seriously missing out. There are tons of offers for extra percentage off items in the store you probably are already buying. You download the app to your smartphone, select the offers and then scan the barcode at checkout. I believe there is also an option to print a barcode from the computer if you don’t have a smartphone. I have already saved almost $100 using it and I only started around August of last year. I always do a quick in store check on what I’m buying before I check out and I usually add a couple of Cartwheel offers.

Target Coupons. You can print out Target specific coupons from the website. They can be combined with a Cartwheel offer and also manufacturer coupons you get from the paper or other printable coupon websites. With a triple stack it can make for huge savings. I got a Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Puppy over the summer for $3.50 when it was originally $25!

You can also get Target coupons through text by texting OFFERS to 827438. Then you can load these coupons into the Target App onto your smartphone.

Target REDcard. What I love about the REDcard is that you can sign up for a debit card in addition to their credit card. Most people don’t need another credit card in their wallet but the debit card comes directly out of your bank account so you don’t have to worry about paying a monthly bill. You automatically save 5% off your bill and you get free shipping online. Once I got my card I couldn’t believe I waited so long to get it.

Reusable grocery bags. I’ll admit I haven’t been good about taking advantage of this offer lately but you can get 5 cents off for each grocery bag you use.

This is not a sponsored post, it’s just me wanting to share how awesome Target is with the world :) I only hope Lincoln shares my love for Target one day, or at least doesn’t mind when I drag him there all the time. Mike already informed me that he probably will not enjoy it as much as I do lol!

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014

It may already be the 6th day in January but I’m finally getting around to sharing a New Year post. Blogging with a newborn baby is pretty challenging so everything I do these days takes a little bit longer :)

2013 was all about having a baby. Almost my entire year was consumed by being pregnant and giving birth to my baby Lincoln. It was one of the most exciting and hardest times in my entire life. I took a picture each week of my growing belly starting at week 14 when I felt like I had the slightest bump and I can’t believe how tiny I looked at that point compared to the big belly I ended up with.

I gave birth to my little guy on November 14th and it feels like so long ago already. It has been such a whirlwind with the hospital stay, nights of virtually no sleep, visits from family and friends and the craziness of the holidays.

On the blog front I shared my weekly outfit posts and I had fun with my remixing skills and not duplicating my outfits. Here’s a couple of my favorite pre-pregnancy outfits. I really missed non maternity clothes!

I shared tons of crochet projects. A couple of my two most popular patterns for the year were this newborn bow hat pattern and ribbed beanie hat pattern. I also shared some refashions, jewelry and DIY projects.

When I think about what I will be doing in 2014 it will start with going back to work in February (boo) and being the best mommy I can be to Lincoln. I honestly don’t know what direction this blog will go in but it will definitely contain lots of pictures of my new favorite guy. Other things I still love and want to continue to blog about are crochet (of course!), thrifty fashion (it’s been way too long since I shopped at the thrift store) and gardening (when it warms up.) I’m not setting any goals on what I want to accomplish and instead I’ll just see where this year takes me. I’ll just continue to share details about my life and my love for creativity.

Happy 2014 from the best thing that happened to me in 2013! It’s Lincoln in his fancy New Years Eve outfit :)
