What I Wore- Mint Maxi Skirt

My hair has two modes: blow dried or hot mess. If I let it dry on it’s own then it dries into a million different directions and I always resort to a pony tail. The problem with my pony tails is sometimes I spend more time figuring out how to make my pony tail look better than if I had just blow dried my hair. Usually on the weekends I would rather spend time doing anything else besides drying my hair.
Enter this scarf I bought way too long ago and pretty much have never worn. Every time I tried it on it never seemed right or didn’t match what I was wearing but this weekend it finally clicked. It elevated my boring old pony tail into something more interesting but with very minimal effort. I even got a compliment from Mike. Maybe I finally figured out this head scarf thing.
I may be the last person on earth to get on board with wearing maxi skirts but this is my first one. I found it at the thrift store and am in love with the color. I love how it looks dressier but I can still sit on the floor with Lincoln and not have any unmentionables showing.
Overall winning combo for comfort and ease while still maintaining some form of style.

Zucchini Summer

I prepped this post a couple of weeks ago but somehow it never made it to the blog (this may have something to do with it.) So I am starting over because instead of looking for zucchini inspiration I made all the recipes already. Let’s back up a second and admire this picture.

I grew a zucchini for the first time in a couple years because I had a horrible cucumber beetle problem I quit growing cucumbers and anything squash related. This year I was armed with a new kind of zucchini seed and I decided to give it another try. Enter the biggest zucchini plant I’ve ever grown. It took over almost the entire garden and crowded out my poor pepper plants. It was a little slow to start but then it was spitting out zucchini left and right. We started out by grilling and sautéing it up and that was pretty tasty (Lincoln liked it too!) but you can only eat zucchini that way a few times before it starts getting boring. Enter Pinterest where I scoured the zucchini recipes for easy, tasty looking solutions to our zucchini.

Let me start with my new favorite zucchini bread recipe from Lil Luna. It’s a lemon glazed zucchini bread and it was delicious. I made three loaves of this bread. It only uses one cup of zucchini and that zucchini up there was 9 cups so I had my work cut out for me.

The other recipe I really enjoyed were zucchini patties from Sunny Days With My Loves. This really masked the zucchini flavor since they were full of cheese. Definitely not a healthy option but very tasty.

Some misses for me were zucchini lasagna and parmesan crusted zucchini. The lasagna was too watery so it probably would have been better if I had precooked the zucchini like the recipe called for. For the parmesan crusted zucchini I used the powdered cheese instead of grated and it didn’t stick to the zucchini very well so that could have come out better again if I followed the recipe more closely.

One more tried and true recipe and this one is from my own blog, chocolate chip zucchini bread. This is the easiest recipe ever. Excuse my poor picture taking from one of my first blog posts but this recipe really is amazing. I have a loaf cooling right now.

Do you have any zucchini recipes you like to make? I’d love to hear about them!

Lincoln’s Nine Month Update

Lincoln's nine month birthday was last Thursday and I'm finally getting this post up :) This guy keeps me busy! We had a great day Saturday at the zoo. He's still not that interested in the animals but had a great time riding in the stroller and hanging out with some friends. We also went out for breakfast this past weekend and he is a breakfast lover! He was gobbling up the omelet and hash browns like there was no tomorrow.

Speaking of eating, this boy loves to eat. He has gotten really good at finger foods and loves vegetables, fruit and meat. Broccoli and strawberries are two current favorites right now. We also introduced Puffs (aka baby crack) and he couldn't get enough. They are not something we eat every day though because he will just keep asking for more. We are still feeding him the pureed pouches because they are so convenient and he loves him. He holds the pouch and sucks it down and sometimes cries when it's gone. I have been on the lookout for good deals because they are not cheap. Whenever I get some coupons or see a sale then I stock up.

Lincoln is up to eight teeth now. We are getting into a good routine of brushing at night. I swish the toothbrush in his mouth and then he takes a turn. He actually does a little hand turn that's really cute like he knows what to do. I think he is mainly enjoying the dab of baby toothpaste I put on the brush.

I can't give an update without talking about Lincoln's non stop movement. He has been "army" crawling for a while and now is finally figuring out how to crawl on his knees. Whenever we get excited about it though he will grin and drop back to his belly. He is still pulling up on everything and trying to cruise along whatever he can hold on to. Standing up all the time also means falling a lot so he's taken a few tumbles but mostly pops back up like nothing happened. He loves to go into whichever room I am not in. If I'm working in the kitchen, then the living room is more interesting. If we're sitting in the living room, then the dining room is calling his name. There is no slowing this kid down.

We are getting lots of da das and ma mas and ba, which he seems to be associating with ball. When he wants something then he makes an "eh" sound. Whether it's more food, or a book or a toy he's pretty good at telling us what's he's interested in.

Generally he's the happiest, sweetest baby. He loves daddy, mommy, and his puppy Abby. He sleeps good. He's loves to laugh (especially at Mike.) He loves to take walks and play with his toys. We are very lucky to have such a darling boy and every stage has been more fun than the next. It's hard to believe in less than three months he will be a year old.

What I Wore- Red, Black, White and Twice

Red, black and white
Cardigan- Target, Shirt- Twice, Pants- Old Navy, Shoes- Fegilicious, Necklace- Thrifted

I have been dying for a pair of white pants and I found a good deal at Old Navy online with a coupon code and free shipping for these khakis. I debated over jeans too but I felt like these were more versatile to dress up for work or dress down for weekends. I love white pants with bright colors but besides that I wasn’t sure what to wear them with. I had a Pinterest hunt to get the creative juices flowing and this outfit came about. If only I’d seen this white pants roundup from Danielle. Well at least I have more ideas now :)
I am talking internet thrift stores again this week. I talked about ThredUp last time and today I’m wearing one of my new purchases from Twice. I signed up and got a $10 credit and then another $10 for downloading the phone app. With $20 in credit I figured I could find a good deal. The site sells used name brand clothes. The selection is pretty good and if you sign up for emails they send out a ton of coupon codes. I ended up purchasing a couple of tops to wear with my multitude of cardigans. The prices are still higher than a thrift store but shopping from your couch is a pretty nice perk. Besides my credit I was emailed a 20% off code because I added something to my cart and didn’t buy it. If you sign up through my link you can get a $10 credit and I get one too.

Into Everything

Lincoln started standing up a couple of weeks ago and it has opened a new whole world of mischief. This kid has us on our toes all the time now that he can pull up on pretty much anything. Some favorites include the ottoman, the living room chair, his activity table and the dishwasher. The dishwasher being his favorite.

Lincoln can walk to the side if he is holding on to something and it starting to hold on with one hand. This little daredevil is ready to go. It’s so adorable and exciting to see him becoming more of a little man. He is more fun than ever but he sure keeps us busy. I am busy non stop once I get home from work until he goes to bed and then I am exhausted by that point too. An hour or two of mommy and daddy time and it’s time for bed and to start the day all over again. Our weekends are so busy too trying to pack in errands and cleaning and visiting with friends and family.

I love spending time with him and I miss him when we’re not together but it sure is challenging to find time to do stuff like blogging, and crocheting and all those things I used to fill my spare time with. So while he is napping I am furiously typing out a semi coherent post to let you know that this is how I’ve been spending my time lately… and now he’s up so that’s all I’ve got for today :)
