One of my favorite things to do every year is to put up my Christmas Decor. But after Christmas is over I also love putting it all away. The house seems so fresh and empty. I feel refreshed to start a new year. Then comes figuring out what to do to decorate. I’ve got some January winter decor ideas to share
First, Organize Yourself
Put all that Christmas decor away to start fresh. I have several bins I keep in the basement. I pulled them all out this year, weeded out the decorations I didn’t use, organized the bins by room and labeled each one so I know what is in them next year. This gave me a clean canvas to move on with our January winter decor.
Repurpose Christmas Items
While putting out decorations away we considered if there was anything that could be repurposed for our January winter decor. Taking out the red that screams Christmas is a must but we had a couple elements that were still working.
I had a bucket of white hydrangea that are neutral and still look pretty on the fireplace so those ones stayed. I had a olive bucket in the dining room that was empty from removing the sparkly Christmas branches and I filled those with large succulents. The center piece from my dining room became the front hall centerpiece and I replaced the pine branches with succulents.
Add Greenery
I love to add greenery to the house. Here in Northeast Ohio, it is sooo cold in January. This year particularly we have seen temps below zero. There has been snow on the ground for weeks and I need greenery to lift my spirits.
I added tons of greenery to our January winter decor. The thing is I don’t have time or energy to keep up with live plants. I’ve got too many other things to worry about. Faux greenery can look fantastic. My absolute favorites are succulents. I’ve had so many people over asking if my succulents are real. They are 100% fake but people don’t know.
The other fake greenery I can’t live without is boxwood. I have these great boxwood spheres that go with everything. I love topping buckets and vases with them to add a great touch of green.
Keep Decor Simple
After all the craziness of Christmas, it feels refreshing to have simple decor in the house. January is all about starting fresh, whether you create New Years resolutions of not, we have all the whole year to look forward too. Keeping the decor simple also helps to set up to add small touches for upcoming holidays like Valentine’s Day. I’ve never decorated for that holiday before since it’s over so quickly but with my simple backdrop I can easily incorporate a few items to be more festive.
Add Cozy Texture
Lots of throw blankets and soft warm pillows help to keep you warm throughout January and the rest of Winter. Blankets are a must in my house and you can usually find me curled up on the couch snuggling under a warm throw blanket.

Lovely tips. I like the “keep it simple” , sometimes people get carried away with all the gltter and different stuff around Christmas and a good decor can be obtained if you can just keep it simple.
Thanks Elise! Simple feels good after Christmas
