I’m sharing another Christmas present creation with you today. I made this hat for my youngest sister Kimberly. I went through a couple of ideas before I whipped this one up at the last second. I got a chance to try out some new stitches, front and back post double crochet. If you know how to double crochet then you can learn each of these stitches. After I watched a video, it was easy to get the hang of them.
What I noticed with creating this ribbed pattern it that it shrinks up the hat since it is so stretchy. I had to make the crown of the hat bigger than I thought because of the ribbing. I think it would be a great stitch for leg warmers (maybe I’ll have to try that.)
My sister loved that hat and requested I add a flower to it. I actually wanted to add a flower but ran out of time. I had one already started so I finished it up Christmas evening with Kimberly’s input on where to add the flower and what button to put in the middle of it. It was fun to collaborate with her since I love to customize my hats for the recipient. She was also pretty impressed at how quickly I was able to add the flower.
Now you get to see two versions of this hat with and without the flower.
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (I used Loops and Threads Impeccable)
I hook
Tapestry needle

You may use any of the patterns I create for personal use. If you would like to make an item to sell with my patterns you must link back to the pattern on my blog. You can not sell my patterns as your own.
I have modified this pattern to a ribbed ear warmer and it is my ms requested item. Just thought I would share. Thanks for great patterns!
Love your beanies
This pattern turned out great! I’ve made 20 hats they s year for Xmas and this one is the best.
What size hat is this pattern.? Love this hat and would love to make some.
It’s made to fit a women’s 21 inch head but because of the stretchy stitch it could fit a large child/teen as well
Had to tweak the pattern a bit to fit my tiny head. Absolutely love the look of this beanie and it’s worked up so quick. Excited to try your other patterns ! Thank you so much.
So glad you liked it Elaina!
How would I make this using caron simply soft yarn?
Hi Julie! It might work with simply soft because the hat is so stretchy. You could also try a J hook or add an additional row of increases after round 7. 1 DC in first six stitches, 2 in next for 80 total stitches. Then all the following rows will also be 80 stitches
I just love making this pattern. This is one of the hats I am making for the homeless. I have made several hats in this pattern and they have turned out beautiful. Thank you for sharing this pattern.
That makes me so happy to hear Nadine!
Hi, do you have a video to show how to make the flower?
Hi Jaimie
I don’t but if you search YouTube for Irish rose crochet pattern and you will find videos for a similar flower
I just wanted to say how greatly appreciated you are. I’ve been trying to design my own shawl pattern & lets just say, I have a greater appreciation for crocheter’s who design so many patterns. So thank you so much for all of your hard work.
Thanks so much Michelle!
I just made this for my son and he’s asleep! I want to wake him up to try it on. He picked out this design. It whipped up super quickly.
