Our niece just turned two last week. She is a huge Sesame Street and Elmo fan so I wanted to make her a special hat. I made this easy pattern up myself.

Using an H hook and worsted weight yarn in red, white, black and orange
sized for toddler with a 19 in circumference
Also needed: yarn needle and stitch marker.

This is worked in the round so there is no joining seam.
Use the stitch maker to keep track of your starting stitch. When starting a new round, remove the stitch marker, make your stitch and replace the stitch marker in the new stitch.

Hat:
Using red
Rnd 1: Make an adjustable ring (go here for a tutorial). Ch 1 and work 6 sc in the ring- 6 sc(Alternatively chain 2 and work 6 sc in the first ch)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around- 12 sc
Rnd 3: [1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] – 18 sc
Rnd 4: [1 sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st] – 24 sc
Rnd 5: [1 sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st] – 30 sc
Rnd 6: [1 sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st]- 36 sc
Rnd 7: [1 sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st]- 42 sc
Rnd 8: [1 sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st]- 48 sc
Rnd 9: [1 sc in next 7 st, 2 sc in next st]- 54 sc
Rnd 10: [1sc in next 8 st, 2 sc in next st]- 60 sc
Rnd 11: [1 sc in next 9 st, 2 sc in next st]- 66 sc
Rnd 12: [1 sc in next 10 st, 2 sc in next st]- 72 sc
Rnd 13: [1 sc in next 11 st, 2 sc in next st]- 78 sc
Rd 14: 1 sc in each stitch around- 48 sc
Repeat until length is 8 inches
Weave in ends

Eyes:
Using white

Rnd 1: Make an adjustable ring . Ch 1 and work 6 hdc in the ring- 6 hdc
(Alternatively chain 2 and work 6 hdc in the first ch)
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each st around- 12 hdc
Rnd 3: [1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] – 18 hdc
Rnd 4: [1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st] – 24 hdc
Leave a long tail for sewing
Weave in ends
Repeat for other eye

Using black
Rnd 1: Make an adjustable ring . Ch 1 and work 6 hdc in the ring- 6 hdc
(Alternatively chain 2 and work 6 hdc in the first ch)
Leave a long tail for sewing
Weave in ends
Repeat for other eye

Stitch the black circle to the middle of the white circle

Nose:
Using orange
Rnd 1: Make an adjustable ring . Ch 1 and work 6 hdc in the ring- 6 hdc
(Alternatively chain 2 and work 6 hdc in the first ch)
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each st around- 12 hdc
Rnd 3: [1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] – 18 hdc

Mouth:
Using black
Ch 19 turn
1 sc in each st across
Leave a long tail for sewing
Weave in ends

Stitch the eyes top the top of the head and nose underneath. See pic for placement.
Shape the mouth into a smile and stitch on underneath nose.

You can make this hat bigger or smaller as you need to customize the size. To make the hat smaller stop increasing rows when you reach the right circumference. Then start the 1 sc in each stitch until you reach the right length.
To make the hat larger continue to add increases by starting the next round by adding one more sc before you start the 2 sc until you reach the right circumference. Then start the 1 sc in each stitch until you reach the right length.
